Tomas Patterson - Furniture and Design
About
a thinking hand
Hi, my name is Tom and I am a furniture maker based in Muloobinba/Newcastle, Australia. I design and make furniture specific to your needs, using locally and sustainably sourced timbers.
With a background in Architecture, this informs my design process; placing an importance on the environment and space the furniture will inhabit, as well as integrating details, form and materials to match with your home or office. The pieces are designed with you and your space in mind.
These pieces are made with particular attention to "no nail" joinery methods, careful consideration for natural wood movement, and maintaining the use of traditional tools and techniques.
My woodwork is informed by my time spent learning Traditional Japanese Carpentry in Kyoto, Japan, and education in Fine Furniture at the Sturt Craft School, Mittagong, Australia.
Each piece is the accumulation of ideas, techniques learnt from craftspeople, and my own life experience. I look forward to sharing my love of this craft and be able to make a practical and meaningful piece for you.
